After Restoration

Love it or hate it, leather is the seating surface of choice for more and more auto owners.  Unfortunately it does not wear as well as a cloth interior.  Mingo's to the rescue!  For less than 100 dollars we can repair many of the most common leather issues.

Here is a basic description of how the repair takes place, along with the warranty

The area to be repaired is first thoroughly cleaned and sanded to insure adhesion.  If we are repairing a hole, a sub patch may be used under the area to be repaired. Flexible compounds that are heat cured are used to fill in holes and cracks until level with surrounding area.

Most leather in vehicles is painted at the factory, so we duplicate that process here by painting the repaired area and blending that color onto the surrounding area.

A 30 Day Warranty is offered on all leather repair from the date of invoice unless otherwise stated. Warranty covers cracking and flaking of repaired surface.

Customer understands that section is being repaired, not replaced with new material.  Repaired section will still experience wear and tear from the friction of sliding across surface.  This is not covered under warranty.

What Can You Expect Repairs to Look Like When Complete?

We like our customers to understand that most repairs will have a slight textural and/or color difference.  This may be noticeable to someone who was aware of damage prior to repair.  Most people who were not aware of damage will not notice any repair has been done.

What Can You Do to Add Life to Your Leather?

The two biggest enemies to your automotive leather is the sun and friction. The sun will bake the leather, causing it to fade and crack. Using a windshield shade usually will be enough to reduce the damage caused by the sun.

The friction of sliding in and out of your vehicle also decreases the life of your seats. As you can see in the pictures to the left, the outer edge of the seat may wear out very quickly. To add life, especially on trucks and SUVs, use the running boards to lift yourself off and on the seat rather than sliding across the surface. In cars, attempt not to slide too much against the upper outer bolster of the seat. These tips should add years of life to your leather. Of course if needed, we would be glad to repair and refinish your vehicle's leather when needed.

One benefit of having leather upholstery is how easy it is to clean. Wiping it down with a damp cloth with a light soapy solution will keep dirt and other abrasives from damaging your prefinished leather. (See owners manual for specific care instructions.) Leather conditioners may be usefull in cleaning and protecting the seats. Most have UV protectants that may help reduce fading and cracking from the sun. But too much of a good thing can cause problems! Follow the instructions from the product's maker along with your vehicle's owner's manual.
